LG Crystal

LG Crystal is another cell phone with unique design and this is the first mobile to have a completely transparent keyboard which is not being too dissimilar to the Samsung Tocco Ultra, consists of a touch screen user interface combined with a slide down keypad.

LG Crystal main difference from the Samsung though is that the crystal has a completely touch sensitive keypad as well. There are no separate keys with just a flat, see-through surface with numbers etched in.

LG Crystal main display, as well as being touch screen has a very high resolution 800 x 480 pixels and 16 million colours as well as the actual size of the screen is quite impressive also being 3” diagonal. The features on this phone are also pretty cool such as the ability to draw a character on the screen to access your music, inbox, etc even if they are a slight bit gimmicky. But you can’t help but feel that with a price of up to £350 SIM-free LG could have given you something a little more special.

One problem that I have found after a couple of weeks of use is that when texting, you have the option of an on-screen QWERTY keyboard which is good and easily accessible but sometimes it locks up and you have to exit your text to unfreeze the phone.

Although the transparent keypad looks snazzy and is a great show off at the pub the original and cool design took all of 10 seconds for the novelty to wear off and for the £350 phone to slip into my pocket to be used just as I used my old, reasonably priced one.

To conclude, the new LG Crystal is a cool new design that could definitely be developed and the features are all quite neat concepts with a pretty good camera. The only drawback with this original mobile is the massive price tag associated with a phone that doesn’t quite give me all I wanted for the money I splashed out.

LG eXpo released in the US this month by AT&T

LG eXpo which will be released in the US this month courtesy of AT&T. If this phone looks familiar, that’s because it’s one and the same as the LG IQ (Monaco) that’s headed for Telus.

LG eXpo has already been officially announced and has a released date set as well on the 7th of December. Specs are pretty similar with what we’ve previously heard and seen in the past. This LG slider comes with 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity, GPS, fingerprint scanner, microSD card slot, and a full QWERTY keypad. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 and packs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood, the first of its kind to become available in the US.

LG eXpo will retail for $199.99 (after $100 mail-in rebate is applied) on a 2-year $69.99/month contract once it’s released next week. A $179.99 optional LG Mobile Projector will also be made available for interested buyers in the coming weeks as an add-on accessory to the LG eXpo which will be another first in the US. The LG eXpo/IQ will definitely become available in Canada by way of Telus though we can’t guarantee the same will be true for its mobile projector accessory.

LG GW880 oPhone Android smartphone announced for China Mobile customized Android OS but like another LG phone GW880 doesn’t have a hardware QWERTY keyboard.

However, it has more advanced features, including: a 3.5 inch WVGA touchscreen display, 5MP camera, GPS, CMMB (China Multi Media Broadcasting) support and TD-SCDMA connectivity.


LG GW880 will be available in China before the end of this month. The phone’s price was not announced.

LG BL40 New Chocolate Christmas Edition is dressed in a black case with golden accents and comes with a voucher than can get buyers prizes of up to 5 million KRW (more than $4,000).

That aside, the New Chocolate Christmas Edition also has an 8MP autofocus camera, instead of the 5MP one featured by the original BL40.
