Modu Gets Launched

Modu has been developing a tiny handset to work with a range of different peripherals, depending on your needs. Multiple sleeves provide a couple of options for a more traditional phone, but car mount, bike and media centre sleeves will also be options. The especially cool teaser should give you a taste of what this device hopes to do for mobility.

As for the reviewers’ first impressions, they highlight that the core Modu product is extremely basic (no Wi-Fi or 3G), but the release of new jackets down the line will really determine how far the product goes; if other manufacturers don’t pump out their own sleeves, Modu will be stuck with “a very small brick that makes phone calls”. The lack of a real number pad, touch input, and obscenely tiny size make Modu impractical on its own, so getting at least one sleeve will be something of a necessity. The graphics are pretty dated, apparently, and the majority of the “express” sleeves aren’t what you’d call stylish.

Modu will be retailing for around $130 locally on Cellcom, which is refunded in full if you fill out a questionnaire - free ain’t bad for something so experimental. What do you guys think, would Modu fly in North America?
